Tips for Parents

Play a Math Game: mathplayground.com, gizmo.com, reflexmath.com, funbrain.com, hoodamath.com

Get involved in the classroom: Volunteer in the classroom or help with class parties

Show your kids math at work in their world: Let them measure when you bake, Ask them to figure out how long a hose you need to reach from the faucet on the side of the hourse to the garden, let the child figure out how many miles you'll be driving on your next trip by using the information on a map, sort silverware and then sort cards by suit or number.

Follow up on Homework: Parents must ensure that children understand their homework. Children will feel easy once they know what they have to do. They should be able to judge the students response: do they understood the problem or not? Children must be provided further assistance if they need it. Parents need to monitor the progress of their children to make sure that they are doing fine. They should encourage them for their good performance.

Explore math in your day to day routines: Elementary school children are well aware of their daily routines, and it is easy to incorporate math into their everyday lives. For example, you can use the minutes left on the clock until dinner as an exercise for subtraction, or multiplying the number of boys and girls in your house.
